It's been along time since the last post here and we are well into 2012.
Whats been happening to Platinum paint protection at this stage is work has slowed considerably.
With the advent of the economy I think everyone is holding onto there disposable incomes.

What I will try and do here is still come up with some inovative ways and ideas to make the business
of paint protection enjoyable.

Tony and Sharon from Diamond Paint Protection in Perth are coming over to Melbourne early April

Car Wrapping

Car Wrapping for 2011?

Ok I have not posted here for a while and have to admit I have lost the blogging mojo with all that has to be done running a business and the backend stuff as well( eg web/office stuff ).So I think i will have to make it
more Fun as I did enjoy some of the posts last year( eg getting a guy of Fiverr dot com to make a jingle for us even though i cannot see us using it in the to distant future.

We have a a few things that are a high possibility for 2011 including going into Car Wrapping so we are looking around for a good company that we can do a Joint Venture with or promote their products.

There seems to be a good opportunity in the paint protection film industry that is largely untapped yet so hopefully we can capitalize on it in 2011.

Many ways to to skin this cat as it can be applied to truck graphics, company cars and logos, higher end auto's that want to stop stone chips and bugs on the front end.

So this is a good heads up for any detailer wanting to differentiate or bundle there services to not play the same game all other detailer do.

Hi Alan here Justins partner.
I just flew over to the world cup to catch a game and do a little bit of advertising
for Platinum Paint Protection.

Ok maybe i didn't go to South Africa and Maybe I paid someone to hold up
the sign as a cheap attempt at Advertising at the World Cup in South Africa

But come one I gotta get some points for trying.

I love the quality of the Football on the Tv at the moment and have a plan that
maybe for the next World Cup to take off the whole Month and just watch non stop football
and get into all the stats players team etc.

ok I haven't posted here for a while and i do not have any excuse other than i have been a little bit lazy.
I have been watching the world cup and a little disappointed at the result between Australia and Germany and hope the next game will be a little better.
As an update to the video filming we did for Platinum paint Protection well it is all done and hopefully I will be able to put up the short summery video here for all to see.
The Production was done by Stephan Mac at www.familyproductions.com.au he was great and very knowledgable and recommend his services.
I will do another post with more details and thanking a some other folk that were also there and fabulous on the day also.

But you might have noticed the jingle mp3 file at the top of the page i was having some fun and got this made up by a jungle expert I didn't put in to much input as I really did not know what I wanted so I asked them to be creative so what do you think please leave feed back below

Australian Grand Prix 2010 winner Jenson Button

Well that time of the year again the The F1 Australian Grand Prix.

Just finished watching the end of the race and being an Aussie a bit of
a bummer for Webber but I am sure he will have his best season yet this year.

Well done to the 2010 Australian F1 Grand Prix winner Jenson Button.

I found this short clip on youtube that gives a good description of the Albert Park Circuit.

I wonder seeing as though these guys are after every one hundredth of a second advantage over the field if they use any sort of polymer that helps the wind resistance go over the race car and if Paint Protection would make a difference,Just interested if they do use something and what would they use.

Car Paint Restoration Workshop

Hello to all out there...
Just a quick post today to let everyone know about a upcoming workshop
on 19th and 20th of April here in Melbourne.(location to be announced the event is being professionally filmed and haven't decided where yet)

We have Paul Marshall coming down from Sydney.

and is an expert on Car Paint Restoration.
He is going to teach a few guys the art and science behind getting that duco
back to better than showroom condition.
From what I have read and seen from what Paul has sent me he really knows his stuff.
For any detailers out there that want to upgrade there skills
this is the time to do so, we have one guy flying in from WA to learn from Paul
and Myself teaching how to do paint protection properly.
There is the market for chip and scratch repair which most detailers do and other touch up small businesses.
But car paint restoration is a hidden gem I feel that could benefit a lot of detailers out there serving a different market.

Even anyone wanting just to learn "to restore car paint" on that pride and joy in the garage may benefit and save money
instead of paying for a new spray paint job costing thousands.

Chip and Scratch Repair tip

Scratchs and chips in paint work on a new car can be a real pain
in the butt.
There are plenty of tricks and tips out there to fix them without getting it resprayed
which will cost you more than a bottle of touch up paint.

Including the old wives tale of rubbing banana peel all over your naked body at full moon
while chanting to the nearest Biker gang that Jack Daniels and Jim Beam is for only
fat hairy blokes with little peckers and that real men drink pink lemonade with sugar sprinkles.

Then picking up your teeth from the ground grinding it all up and cutting the scratches
and chips out with that.

Ok that maybe a lode of horse doo doo,

...and I am tired, cranky and not to knowing what I am writing (good english Huh)

So just check out this video for a good tip on taking out scratches and chips.

....the old girl doesn't look to shabby also.

10 Ways to Save Petrol

10 Ways to Save Petrol

OK, these are all tongue in cheek- a bit of fun- but there is an underlying principle behind (almost) every one that's sensible, and if you keep it in mind you'll be able to figure out your own ways to save on fuel. Ways that'll work

1. Fill your tyres with helium to lighten the car.
(Heavier cars need to burn more fuel to move them)

2. While you’re at it, remove the air conditioning and stereo. The pioneers who tamed this country didn’t have any of that stuff so you don’t need it either.
(You have to burn extra fuel to drive your air conditioner and the stereo adds weight)

3. Put the slipperiest coating you can on the paint (try baby oil) so it just slides through the air.
(Less friction means less fuel to travel the same distance)

4. Only ever drive downhill.
(This one is obviously a joke)

5. Cut out the floor and power the car yourself, Fred Flintstone style.
(For short trips, allow yourself a bit more time and walk, jog or ride a bike. It’s healthy and it’s fun)

6. Quit your job to cut down on the kilometres you have to travel, or……

7. Move in at work. You’ll have to drive a lot less and imagine how much overtime you’ll earn.
(If you plan ahead you can often cut out unnecessary trips and use less fuel)

8. Attach a rope to the big toe on your right foot. Tie the other end to a sensitive part of your anatomy so when you prod the accelerator it jerks painfully on your sensitive bit.
(Driving smoothly and sedately can save a lot of fuel)

9. Paint “I want to be like Gary Glitter!” in large bright letters down each side of your car. Embarrassment will stop you from driving it ever again.
(Use alternative means of transport when practical)

10. Carry a rope and grappling hook in your car so when there’s a truck going your way you can snare it and get towed along with your engine off.
(Carpooling and sharing can reduce car use significantly)

It is a shame that it is so far away, though the "Western Aussies" will say that the Eastern States are the ones that are so far away I'm sure.

It really is in a league of its own, what I mean is when you do visit even though it still is part of the mainland.

Car paint protection is it worth it
Ok This is going to be bias from the start, I have to be straight up as I own a business and this blog is about the business of Paint Protection.

I will endeavor to give you good advice anyway.

Firstly there are so many different products on the market today and probably many more to enter.With the advent of the internet to give accessibility to virtually anyone anywhere it is really incredible.

You will have to ask your self why do you want Paint Protection?
Then do your research into all the types of major brands and what professional applicators/detailers are using and not just the dealers.

A lot of detailers will give you their opinion, also find and ask an applicator that just specializes in paint protection for cars.Ask at least 3 will give you at least 3 opinions.

If you want to have a go yourself.( you can do it)
What warranties/guarantees are on offer(lifetime Hmm call me on
1300 66 18 33 for my take on this one)
What is the person going to actually do?
This is a good question and will get a lot of replies "Huh....Well put on step one and then step 2".

If you get a more detailed answer and you feel your question is more than answered that is probably a good indicator that they will do a decent job.

Prices... sometimes it is not even worth it to save $50-$100 to drive all the way across town, for those that are self employed you could be making that money.

Friendly service... well that should be mandatory now a days.
Not " Yeah how ya going I'm having Lunch can you ring back later"
Believe it or not I still do calls to competitors to see how they answer calls, analysis of the market etc and they still do answer calls like that sometimes even worse!

A $6000 detail per car!

Here is a guy who has created a niche that is right out of most detailers mind set and well bloody good on him. He is also on call to go out to a clients car where ever it is to clean off bird poo.

What a great idea.

I am going to see if we can get him on a call and post the pod cast on the blog.
If you read all the responses on you tube there are a lot of negative ones, but I can't help but think these guys who are posting these messages are missing the point, and big time to.

There is a valuable message and business model if they would only put aside there opinions and emotions if only for a second.

He has created a niche that serves a market where money is not the issue something else is required and they are glad to pay for his services and come back for more and refer imagine getting a referral for a $6000 detail.
All I can say is WOW.
The car care industry eat your heart out.

Car Tinting

Car Window Tinting.
Here's a good intro into what car tinting involves from a couple of cool dudes from the USA.
Though it is only short just over 2 minutes and 30 seconds there is some good advice.

For instance if you notice the guy cuts the window tinting film on the outside of the car for the back window
because it would be a real pain in the ass to do all that stuff cramped at that angle in the back seat.

There is only one thing that I can remember that was fun cramped in the back seat of a car for.
ok ok that does not have anything to do with car tinting it just jogged some longterm memory banks.

I suppose I made this post because we get a lot of inquiries that come through asking me about car tinting
and do I do it ....or recommend anyone.

So I will add to this section as I go, getting some more tips, car car products and services, and possibly do an interview
with a couple of guys that I do recommend my clients to.

Some ideas that come to mind are the different types of window films and prices for different vehicles, obviously window sizes
and numbers vary in different cars.

Plus also advice on residential homes and commercial premises for window tinting.
Though of topic it still may be useful for those that may be interested and not any more difficult to ask for.When interviewing those Guys/Gals.

Paint Protection Tips| Some Tricks of the Trade.
Ok here are a couple of paint protection tips.
If your are going to have a go at applying paint protection yourself...well..."good on you", it isn't hard just remember that how you prepare the paint work before hand will give you the best results.

Even new cars can have marks and scuffs in transport and some over spray that you can see right at the bottom if you get down and look.
So doing a really anal retentive inspection by filling scratches and chips, cutting out swirl marks, taking the time to tape around all plastics and rubber trims, planning out which way you will go around the car etc.

Will give you truly outstanding results when applying a good paint protection sealant to your cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles.

Please excuse the amature video work as this footage is from a years ago.

Kind of glad we did stick the camera up all those times and just pressed play to see what comes out.
Some footage sure was not so good but we did capture a lot to be able to now show/explain in a visual format.

Some tips and techniques you can only find out by "doing something" rather than reading instructions and theory.

Paint Protection Film

Paint Protection Film Video on why it is probably a good choice especially for luxury cars.

Here is a great test to show the benefits of Paint protection film.

Even though we are not doing it at the moment, looking into which type of film we would like to use for our clients and the most appropriate for ourselves.

It shows a good example of why all cars would benefit from some good paint protection film on the front end and behind the mirrors.

A lot of the luxury car owners... for example "film & car paint protection on Lamborghini Diablo SV" at mid to high six figures cost and over 10G's for new paint work is probably a good idea.
So I think this is fueling, and why luxury car owners are now moving in this direction instead of those ugly car bra sorry to the company owners but I never liked them for looks mainly (they obviously do there jobs)...... but ugggllly.

There are lots of film manufacturers on the market and you can even buy/import from directly from China though the quality may not be the same.

Also some company's will cut it to your size and car model for an exact fit. I am not sure if it is worth doing the whole car in a paint protection film.
...but hey if you have the money and want it done your choice.

I suppose my reasoning is it is going to cost a lot to do the whole car and you will probably have to do it again in say 4 years/or less so I think the best value is just doing the front end in a good strong paint protection film to stop the majority of stone chips.

I will write more on this subject when we come up with some more information on types and what we are going to do in this area of our business and if there are any new advances in the paint protection film industry.

What got you into the business?

Well, Dad had just retired, and he and Mum bought their "last new car". A Nissan Patrol (plenty of seats for all the grand kids) and they paid $800 for the Paint Protection. Now I spent over ten years working in the automotive spare parts industry and I knew you could buy the product for a LOT less than that. I thought there has to be a market for someone applying top quality Paint Protection at a realistic price. So, with my business partner (and brother in law- we're a family business) Alan we did our research and found that Toughseal (then quite new on the Australian market) was the most durable stuff available, has an awesome shine and a "no bulldust" guarantee.

Other Interests: Comedy, pushbike riding, snorkelling and I've got an old Datsun I'm rebuilding for some club level motorsport.
